Congratulations to Drs. Earl Bogoch and Homer Tien on their appointment to the Order of Canada in the latest round of appointments and promotions announced June 30, 2025.
Earl Bogoch (BA MD FRCSC MSc) is a long-standing member of the Division of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Toronto, and a Professor in the Department of Surgery, Temerty Faculty of Medicine. Dr. Bogoch made a sustained and exemplary contribution as the Chair of the Department of Surgery Academic Promotions Committee (Jan 2020 - Apr 2025). He is the former Medical Director of the Mobility Program at St. Michael’s Hospital, Unity Health and former Head of the Division of Orthopaedic Surgery at Wellesley Hospital, Toronto. Dr. Bogoch, who is the inaugural holder of the Brookfield Chair in Fracture Prevention, was named a Member of the Order of Canada for his pioneering and innovative work in preventing fractures.
Homer Tien (MD MSc FACS FRCSC) is a trauma surgeon in the Division of General Surgery at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre and an associate professor in the Department of Surgery, Temerty Faculty of Medicine. Dr. Tien previously served as a frontline military physician. He is currently the CEO of Ornge, a non-profit air ambulance service dedicated to urgent transportation for critically ill patients in Ontario. He was named a Member of the Order of Canada for improving trauma care for people in remote areas, including injured soldiers and First Nations communities.
