Tremblay obtained her M.D. from the University of Western Ontario, London, Ontario, in 1991. This was followed by internship at the University of Ottawa and General Surgical residency in the University of Toronto Gallie Program. During her residency she undertook research in acute lung injury as part of the surgical scientist program, obtaining a PhD at the University of Toronto Institute of Medical Sciences in 1998. She became a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in 2000 following which she completed fellowships in Trauma and Surgical Critical Care at Emory University and Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. She is American Board of Surgery certified in both General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care, and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. In July 2002 she returned to Toronto and assumed the position of Assistant Professor of Surgery and Critical Care Medicine at the Tory Regional Trauma Centre, Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, University of Toronto, Canada. Her clinical practice focuses on primarly on acute traumatic injuries and critical care. Her research interests involve clinical studies assessing outcomes in trauma and critical care.
