Comprehensive Breast Disease and Oncoplastic Surgery – St. Michael’s Hospital
Breast Program Description
This 1-year fellowship in Breast Surgical Oncology prepares fellows for a community or academic career in Breast Surgical Oncology. It emphasizes the multidisciplinary approach to caring for woman with breast cancer while at the same time exposes the fellow to a large variety of common benign breast conditions.
This fellowship will take place at St. Michael’s Hospital in the CIBC Breast Centre, one of Canada’s oldest Breast Centres. The integrated program provides fellows exposure to Surgical Oncology, Oncoplastic Surgery, Plastic Surgery, Medical and Radiation Oncology, Medical Imaging and Pathology.
Fellows will have an opportunity to lead tumor board rounds and teach at all levels of medical education. Research is encouraged but not a mandatory part of the fellowship.
The flexibility of the program allows the fellow to do electives at other centres within Toronto including Princess Margaret Hospital or other cities based on their ultimate career goals. In addition, fellows are encouraged to maintain their comfort with general surgery procedures and will have ample opportunity to do emergency general surgery procedures while on-call.
Upon Completion fellows will receive certification of completion of a fellowship in Breast Surgical Oncology at the University of Toronto.
