Dr. Fred Brenneman is a trauma general surgeon and Medical Director of Trauma Services at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in Toronto. He graduated from medical school at the University of Toronto in 1988 and from the general surgery residency training program in Toronto in 1994. He completed a trauma surgery fellowship at Cook County Hospital in Chicago, Illinois, before starting as a trauma general surgeon and intensivist at Sunnybrook in 1995. He is an Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of Toronto, and is the Immediate Past-President of the Trauma Association of Canada. His clinical practice involves trauma surgery & critical care medicine, and general surgery with a particular emphasis on complicated abdominal wall hernias including laparoscopic ventral hernia repair. He has recently helped to establish an acute care surgery service at Sunnybrook, and he provides national leadership in the organizational development of acute care surgery in Canada.
